Riner rentals has quality apartment at good prices, I have referred you guys a couple of times, I do enjoy most of the quietness in the neighborhood. The staff is always friendly to me when I come in to pay my rent, I do want to say I think some of the stories I have read I think have been exaggerated a little because my experience has been nice and comfterable So I'm going to rate a 5 star because its a good place for me,my girlfriend, and baby to live.

I think it's fashionable in the Harrisonburg area to kind of jab at Riner Rentals, and people have a right to their (perceived) experience, but I'll only speak to mine, which was outstanding. I lived in one of the Hillmont apartments for 6 1/2 years on the dot and my experience was highly positive. For starters, my rent only went up once in the entire duration of my stay (from $525 to $575, which is still an excellent value). The place was quite spacious for my needs. There were a few issues with the drywall cracking when the temperature/weather changed but that's normal wear-and-tear stuff. I liked the apartment a lot. The staff in the main office was always very courteous too. And reasonable. I had one incidence of my rent check getting lost in the mail and they waived the late fee, which I thought was very kind. And one of the managers also gave me an extension on declaring I was moving out, which she totally didn't have to do. I also remember an incident where one tenant was leaving their cigarette butts everywhere. Riner was originally going to make all tenants collectively pay for the cleanup, but when we let them know it was just one person responsible who had since moved out, they changed their mind and just covered it. Just very reasonable, polite staff, in my experience. Minor quibbles: They rent a lot of properties so you may lose a tiny bit of the personal touch. I never minded since it's a professional, contractual relationship, after all. And I didn't get my deposit back - but I lived there 6.5 years, so there was a lot of wear and tear to repair and clean up, so getting it back would have been a pleasant surprise. Very positive experience with the property and staff. Pretty much perfect for all my needs. EDIT: A few weeks after moving out, I actually DID get a bunch of my deposit back, so disregard that quibble.

I rented from Riner Rentals from 2007-2010. I know this review may be coming rather late, but given all the negative reviews, I felt Riner needed to know they did a lot of good for me. I was a nervous young man who was moving away from home for the first time but Paul Riner and his crew helped me find a place to live in quick order, and did very well with the upkeep. If there was a problem, it was fixed within a day. These folks did a great job and should be commended!

Our rental property was not in great shape but we needed something when we moved to Harrisonburg from the Midwest and something that would allow us to save money to buy a house once we figured out the lay of the land. So, we got what we paid for. No complaints there. I also think Paul is a real stand up guy and is as reasonable and responsive of a landlord as you can ask for. My interactions with his handyman (I think his name is James) were also nothing but positive. Unfortunately, my wife and I always ran into trouble with the other staff members we interacted with. I don't know if they get burned out dealing with students, but I definitely felt like they were oftentimes short and dismissive and I rarely ended a conversation feeling like anything got resolved. We basically stopped calling to report maintenance issues because it wasn't a good experience.
