Unlock Your History

Unlock Your History helps people along a marvelous journey: one that begins with a tantalizing, but frustrating family document. It could be a postcard, an old passport, a will, an invitation or obituary. It may have been handwritten by a recent or long-departed ancestor. It's certainly in another language. ? We call it genealogical translation, but it's so much more meaningful than that. Unlock Your History specializes in Germanic languages (German, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic, even English from earlier centuries) to help families translate and understand the context of their enigmatic documents.

Unlock Your History provided us with fascinating research about several of our postcards. The Journey Books that they created will make for a visually attractive way to highlight this history.

I always wondered what the handwritten notes in German script said in my heirloom "Heilige Bibel" or holy bible and "Kochbuch" cook book. I read some German, but these letters were nearly illegible to me and likely a dialect. I sent iPhone photos of the pages to Unlock your History. I promptly received an impressive translation of my ancestor's favorite bible passages plus context of the times in a memoir format. A great service for all types of archivists.

I was impressed by the quality of translation from German to English and the variety of documents that they can translate. They can help us understand what was written so long ago when language, handwriting, and context were so different from today.
